My season did not turn out the way I had planned but much has been learnt. Let me show you what mean.
After much frustration at not being able to compete as planned this year, there are many things I have learned as a result of my health problems (back mainly and an ill timed bug).. mainly, the importance of Patience,Perseverance and Statistics.
I am (have to be) quite philosophical about this season past and its part in the big picture. Looking at the positives, I know my long game is now more solid than it was 3 years ago. I have done lots of work with my coach Alan White(Lanark Golf Club) and the changes we have achieved will help make me more consistent in 2009.
And the negatives? Well I now know to be careful that when improving one area of my game, I can sub-consciously neglect another. This showed up in my short game this season, especially my putting. I usually average under 30 putts per round, but this year it has been around 34 putts. The European Tour Average is around 28. I have set my new target and will achieve it.
I know I always have a choice of how I see things. I could easily call 2008 a horrible season of injury and disappointment. But there is no value in that for anyone. Instead, I choose to see it as a season of learning that has made me stronger, more resilient and more competitive. Come on 2009, its time.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for all your support in the past and in the future.
